International headquarters

Since 2012, Box has grown its London office to more than 100 staff, also making it the company’s international headquarters, hosting sales, marketing and support functions.

David Quantrell, Senior VP and GM EMEA, Box, explains: “To realise our global potential and provide service to our many global customers Box headquartered in London.

In 2012, much of our customer base came from outside the US, but we were managing services from our US office. We realised that there were larger opportunities in Europe by working directly with our European customers. Now, London is our international headquarters and we are able to better serve our customers from a local office.”

Talent: deciding factor

Already impressed by London's global reach, Box recognised the advantages of tapping into London’s leading tech talent and the UK’s business friendly environment, including Patent Box, the UK government’s tax regime for Intellectual Property revenues.

“We felt that we needed enthusiastic, vibrant, innovative talent and London really has that,” says Quantrell.

“The tech mindset in London, largely driven by the London developer community, has been extremely valuable; a big part of our solution is our open platform that developers can build on, so it’s been great to interact with the community in that way, too.”

Quantrell also adds that the UK’s supportive business environment was also a consideration for headquartering in London; specifically the Patent Box, a tax regime for intellectual property.

“Patent Box has been a great way of supporting the business. For us it was a way of protecting our IP and has provided a way of structuring the business for the future.”
